Today was our last day in Syracuse with our friends and Emma and Chad had organised a halloween party for family and friends. We all helped Emma prepare for the party by carving some pumpkins - a Cookie Monster and a puking pumpkin (see photos). Emma had also made some other great halloween inspired foods including a great dip served in a carved out squash to resemble a cauldron with red and yellow pepper slices to look like flames. Family members bought treats for the party with Carolynn and Stafford bringing a bright green halloween soda.

Chad really enjoys halloween and decorates the house with spooky items that jump out on you with a blood curdling scream! These were strategically placed to activate whenever anyone entered the house which was entertainment watching people's reactions to them but some of the young children did not like them at all. It was great meeting up with other members of Chad and Emma's family who we have not seen since their wedding two years ago.

The kids played and carved pumpkins while some of the adults watched the football on TV. We had a few pumpkin ales and raspberry cider along with some tasty chilli. Later as it started to get dark Chad lit a small fire in the back yard ready to make some S'mores, something we only ever do here.

As the party was coming to an end it was sad to say goodbye to everyone we had met and it was especially emotional to say goodbye to Emma, Chad, Olivia and Dylan who we've really enjoyed spending our holiday with and a big thank you for your hospitality and allowing us to stay over. We really look forward to spending some more time with you all soon.

I really don!t do Halloween here but I do love the atmosphere and fun over there. Seeing the home fronts decked ot is just great!

Great party - is there any video footage of the spooks spring out on unsuspecting guests? I can't believe how much stuff can be made from pumpkins, next you'll be telling me all vegetables can be eaten!

What a shame the blog is coming to an end... Have a safe trip back and we look forward to welcoming you back this side of the pond and hearing the unedited version of the holiday!
