We then travelled on up to Syracuse. On today's schedule was.... You guessed it, "shopping". After a quick stop at Eric and Janes to drop off our souvenirs of the last week we then headed for the local mall
. As it was lunchtime we looked to get something to eat and I spotted a "five Guys" burger restaurant. I've heard a lot of good things about these burgers so I was keen to try them. It's different to the usual burger place as you can customise your burger by adding whatever you want. I can honestly say that it was the best burger I've had to date in the states. The fries were great too, thick cut with the skins on so they were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The drinks machine was awesome, providing 150 options from a touch screen with drinks like vanilla coke, cherry vanilla coke and even Raspberry Coke. It's a bit more expensive than the other fast food places but worth it. They are opening in Covent Garden soon so a visit to London might be on the cards!
More shopping followed and I wandered off to a nearby halloween store to see what type of things are on offer over this festive period. The amount and variety of outfits are amazing from a superhero to a hotdog. I saw two girls dressed as female versions of Mario complete with moustaches! The US really get into halloween in a huge way with all ages getting involved in trick or treating and party's.
Our last shopping stop was at Destiny USA mall for Tina who missed some stores out from the last visit
. Once complete it was a quick stop back at Eric and janes house to get changed ready for our meal at Quaker steak and lube. Meeting up with Chad, Emma, Liv and Dylan we got a great table sitting directly under a truck on a garage ramp! Chad ordered the triple atomic hot wings challenge which consists of 6 hot wings, each one covered in a sauce rated at 500,000 SHU!! As you can see from the photo below I had one to start with and began eating which wasn't too bad, but within 30 seconds the heat really kicked in. I had sweats, tears and could hardly talk!! This intense heat lasted a good 20 minutes and I had to throw in the towel. Chad continued and ate the remainder of the wings. Respect!!!
Take a look at the photos of the restaurant, they have some amazing motorcycles and cars on show, hanging from the ceiling. They also have some amazing food on offer too, with all you can eat chicken wings! It was a great meal and I was happy I survived the Triple atomic wing!
This morning we left Ithaca and travelled back to Syracuse. But first we stopped off in the centre of town to have a look about. Not a great deal going on at 10am in the centre of Ithaca apart from some building work to the commons area. With a quick walk round the shopping area we headed up to Cornell university, ranked 14th in the World and also in the Ivy League with about 20,000 students. As Tina works at Exeter uni she was very interested looking around the campus which has some beautiful old buildings as well as some very interesting new ones. We particularly liked the sorority /fraternity houses around the campus. It was a very busy place with students walking to and from their classes.
