After a 1am start we set off from Newton Abbot at 2am, driving up to Heathrow. Apart from a slight detour where the M4 was closed and a quick coffee stop we arrived at the Airport at 5.45, where we dropped the car off with valet parking. Hopefully he's not joy riding around London!

Checking in and security were a breeze but unfortunately we discovered our flight was delayed by 2 and a half hours. On the up side we each got a 10 voucher to get breakfast! The flight finally got underway but ended up being 3 hours late and we settled down for the 7 hour flight.

We landed in Boston with fantastic weather, sunny and 22 degrees and took the shuttle bus to get the rental car - a Ford Escape. No real issues driving through Boston, although we did drive through the EZ pass gate at the toll gate instead of taking a ticket. Mark will probably testify to this on his recent visit - once you commit to a lane it's very difficult to change and you will receive someone's wrath if you queue jump! The outcome of this error was to pay the full toll price which was $5.80!

As we got closer to Syracuse the weather got worse and became a torrential downpour. As well as getting dark we had all been awake for 24 hours and the effects of the caffeine were wearing off. I was struggling to concentrate on the road even at slower speeds so we stopped a few times along the way. We finally arrived at Eric and Janes at about 10.20pm and they made us a cup of tea and some toast.

Looking forward to seeing Emma tomorrow and seeing if we can get some bargains at the Mall!
I will put some photos on tomorrow - just too tired today!

Sid, you have my full sympathy - taking the full toll charge is a much better option that feeling scared for your life.

Glad you've arrived safely if a little delayed. Now ditch these quaint old English customs of tea and toast and get on the burgers -:)

Shame about the delay in getting going, but a free breakfast is the way to start a trip state side. Besides the extra time would have been useful for finishing drinks in the bar pre-flight!

I can also sympathise with the EZ Toll experience having made a similar error myself on the way up the Space Coast. Far better to take the full fare rather than playing chicken with a couple of local banjo players.

If it was anyone else driving after 24 hours of being awake I would be concerned, but knowing your pedigree there is no doubt you have the expertise Sid. What with your 'Touch-a-Truck' Ireland trip, waking to find Paddy and Murphy decorating and your general skills behind the wheel, I'm sure Tina and Emmy would have hardly noticed anything alarming!

Now get some sleep, get shopping and get on the burgers!
