We grabbed a taxi from the airport which took about 30 minutes. Again we used the official taxi meter stand and avoided the taxi touts when walking through the airport. It only cost 420 baht which is pretty reasonable for the distance. Getting here is ok, trying to get a taxi back to the airport is likely to cost at least 600 as the touts won't do it for any less.
You can't walk anywhere without being constantly hassled to take a taxi, tuk tuk, "look in my shop" or "have a massage". It really does get on your nerves after the 1000th time! I feel so sorry for people staying here for a couple of weeks.
There really is nothing nice to write about this place. The beach is just like a beach in Mallorca at the height of the tourist summer. It's crammed with sunbeds and people walking around selling all sorts of tourist crap in a constant line. The water is surprisingly dirty and the beach is just full of litter. I know we sound negative writing this but there are far more beautiful places in the world than here. Hopefully the rest of Thailand is nicer.
At night we couldn't find a decent restaurant to eat in. All the authentic Thai restaurants are at least 5 times higher in price than Bangkok and the rest are just Irish bars or western fast food places like McDonalds and Burger King. I don't see the point in flying 13 hours from the UK to eat in McDonalds or Scruffy O'Murphys!
The main street called Bangla has a constant drove of Thai Prostitutes wearing nothing more than a pair of tiny shorts and a bra. There are thousands of them literally and they outnumber the tourists easily . All sorts of men are with them, young, old and even very old men using their 20 year old lady boy to help them cross the road.
Please. There has to be more to Thailand than hookers. We have had enough of this place and are trying to get away as soon as possible. We are going to head to one of the islands in the search for the perfect tranquil beach with a bar run by a heterosexual male in mens clothes with no hidden agenda other than to serve us beer.
Tomorrow we are going to rise early and catch the 8:30 ferry to Ko Phi Phi.
