We spent Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd at Old Bahama Bay Marina and Resort, recently, sadly in the news as the location where John Travolta's son died. It poured with rain early on Tuesday morning and showered for much of the day so we did boat jobs and relaxed, happy that the boat was getting her salt crust washed off! On Wednesday we sat by the pool and went for a long walk on the beach. There was a film crew here doing a magazine shoot so we had fun watching the shoot for a wedding and later a bonfire and junkanoo on the beach with glitzy costumes and loud music. The marina began to fill up with boats and we were getting set to go across to Florida on Thursday. There seemed to be a consensus growing that Thursday would be the best window for the crossing though not ideal.

Our Canadian neighbours have a vintage Beneteau Evision 1982 made in France and very different from current Beneteau styles, a ketch with a center cockpit and full pilot house in the main cabin. We discover they went through the Indian Cay passage with a 6' draft, they timed it 2 hours before high tide and followed the waypoints with never less than 8'. That knowlege would have saved us the hard slog into wind yesterday! We swapped potatoes for home made plum jam and exchanged books.

We walked out to the breakwater to photograph our last Bahamian sunset - at least for a while! No conch blowing at sunset tonight either though I was tempted.
