Looked at Doziers and called a marina that we could make in the time left in the day. They sounded friendly and had a slip. Heaved up pronto and set off transiting the piece of the ICW we had seen yesterday while looking for an anchorage. We held our breath at a swing railway bridge just south of Fernandina Beach which is said to close without warning. (the book says listen for trains!).
Weather seemed a little warmer and we managed without gloves. Pleasant run. Passed by Nassau Sound and Saw hardly any other traffic. Only dolphins and pelicans. Through the Sisters Creek Bascule Bridge. The keeper was very responsive and friendly. A quick hop across the St. Johns River and back into the ICW. Some excitement when Dave saw a helicopter working on high voltage power lines close by. Ros thought he was having a heart attsck. We caught up with another boat going to Palm Cove Marina and followed them in. At the last moment the marina called and said they would put us on the T dock. This boat behaves like a Zeppelin when docking due to her generous freeboard so stopped 2 feet off the dock and let the cold northerly wind do something useful for once.
We found our paper charts had run out at the Florida border. Friendly liveaboards who work at the marina ran Dave up to West Marine where dad had to pick up teenage son who worked their and Maptech paper charts were duly purchased. The family live aboard a Beneteau 46 that they bought from The Moorings and the skipper is very pleased with the boat and says he has been in heavy weather in it without problems.
We are off for a walk ashore and something to eat.
