The night before my birthday, we had a little party on one of the roof top gathering areas above Ana's apartment.
Our beverage of choice for this night was a fresh and tasty pot of Mojito. For those of you who don't know, this is a Cuban based drink with white sugar, lots of lime, fresh peppermint, White Rum (Called ron blanco in Español.), seltzer water, and ice. Ana makes her Mojitos pretty weak, but I really like them like this since it's more like drinking a minty Lime-ade than something with a lot of alcohol in it. This makes it a sneaky drink which you drink a lot of, and get quite drunk from, but without a hangover even when drinking a lot of them since there is so much water and ice in the drink. Thankfully, rum is very cheap here ($7 for a decent sized bottle of some cheap but not terrible tasting stuff), and limes cost about 2 cents a piece, so this drink is cheap, and serces plenty. Other than that I also bought a case of Aguila Light for about 60 cents a can, which we also somehow finished off (later finding out bottles here are cheaper, 50 cents).
At the party we played a card game, that was fun, ate cake, that was very good (and very different from any cake I've every had in the US), and talked a lot with Ana's friends (most of which are more or less fluent in English, which makes it much easier for me). It was a good time. More thumbnails ...
