We were going to see the start at 0400 but for those of you that know me you will realise how unrealistic this was. We didn't make it, I think we got up around 10ish!
After breakfast, which was cooked over an open fire, we headed into town. I went to the Leadville museum followed by several antique stores.
We had luch in an old style Saloon which was really nice and felt more like a museum! Then it was off to a trail. The timberline trail just west of Leadville. The trail ran along between two mountains following the course of a river for the most part.It was really pritty with the mountains covered in pine trees. On the way back down we noticed that we were actually on part of the route of the Leadville 100 and that they would be running past in just a few minites. We were able to watch them run just a few feet away from us.
Then it was off to the finish line where we could watch them run in. We had a hot-dog dinner it was really nice standing around with the atmosphere of everyone cheering etc. The first runner was in at 16 and a half hours!
