For our first proper outing in Australia we decided to go out to a wildlife park in the Adelaide Hills to see some native animals. It was great! I (Jess) insisted on buying a bag of animal food to take round with us. Admitedly it was probably aimed at the younger visitors, but hey, 26 isn't all that old really...

Having the food made us very popular with the inmates, especially the wallabies and kangaroos. We were soon surrounded. It was slightly nerve wracking at first when a HUGE and somewhat sinister looking (something to do with the vaguely human appearance) male red kangaroo came hopping determidely towards me! Luckily he stopped in time and was happy to eat all of the food I had. It was great being able to get so close to them. We were even able to go up and stroke a koala. It was an orphan, which had been hand reared and so was used to humans. I am told wild koalas can be very agressive, and not soft and cuddly like this one was.

There was a large range of animals there - I was particularly impressed by the wombats, they are brilliant! We also saw a Tasmanian devil, an echidna, potaroos, bilbies, wallaroos, bandicoots, snakes, lizards, frogs, toads. Anyway, you get the idea.
