We are staying in Bangkok with Jess's cousin Nick who is living out here while he is working for Mattel Toys designing boxes for toy cars and stuff (pretty cool, I thought). Anyway, it was great of him to put us up and very useful for us to have a local(ish) person who could speak Thai and show us around some of the sights of Bangkok. It was also great to have the luxuries of hot-water showers, TV, a sofa and, best of all, access to a washing machine! For the first time in 2 months!! (or maybe we shouldn't be admitting to that...)

Bangkok was huge and very, very busy but somehow seemed easy to get around and not anywhere near as hectic as we thought it was going to be. It was also full of great sights and attractions, such as Wat Po (a huge temple complex with a MASSIVE golden statue of a reclining buddha (30 metres long, I think), the biggest market in the world (full of hundreds of shops containing everything you could ever wish to buy, and even more shops containing things you really, really wouldn't!), and loads more.

One day we went on an organised trip to Ayuthaya (the ancient capital of Thailand) which was crammed full of ridiculously old, decaying temples, which were amazing. A bit like the set of an Indiana Jones film, I suppose. We even saw the famous buddha's head that was wrapped up in tree roots (see pictures).

On our last evening Nick took us to the biggest restaurant in the world where we had an amazing meal of seafood (fish, lobster, clams, the works!) served by waiters on rollerskates and occasionally by one who flew through the air on a zip-wire that stretched through the restaurant! Brilliant!
