After leaving Birmingham we drove straight to Dallas which is roughly 600 miles. Being in the car for extended periods of time really isn't that bad, you just need to get into driving mode and accept that it is going to be a long day in the car. In a way it can be kind of relaxing, it's like the only thing you need to worry about is gobbling up miles and not getting pulled over.
I have always been a kind of conspiracy theory buff, so when I started lookinmg at driving cross country seeing the spot where JFK was assassinated was at the top of the list of things that I wanted to see. The museum at the Texas Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald (alledgedly;) shot JFK from was actually really well put together, it spent a lot of time focusing on Kennedy's legacy, and it also showed the affect that the assassination had on both the city of Dallas and the Country. They also gave equal tiome to the various conspiracy theories and were pretty open about the fact that to this day we really don't know happened on that day in 1963.
Besides the museum we weren't overly impressed with Dallas, I'm, sure there are some cool parts of the city but most of what we saw was expressways and sky scrapers, although we did have a really good seafood platter with some awesome crab legs
