Well, after another bus ride yesterday (I think I have logged somewhere around 120 hours on busses so far!) I arrived in Tha Kheak, which is a small out of the way border town just across the Mekong from Thailand.

A couple weeks ago I was thinking about what else I wanted to do on my trip in the time I had left, and high on the list was taking a few days and getting off the beaten track, and spending some time in an area where there aren't a whole lot of foreigners. Don't get me wrong places like Vang Vien are definitely a lot of fun, and allow you acces to a lot of different activities, but sometimes I get this vague feeling that I don't want my whole experience to just be a kind of "paint-by-numbers" type of thing, you know, go-to-this-city, do-this-type-of-activity-there, kind of thing. So anyway, the point of coming here is to rent a motorbike and take a three day 500 kilometer through the Laos country side, while stopping and spending the night in some small villages. Besides awesome scenery, there are a lot of caves, temples etcetera to see, plus just doing the trip should be an adventure, kind of a last hurrah of my trip. It has been raining quite a bit over the last few dyas here, so that will either add to the "adventure" of it or make it kind of miserable, we'll have to see! Also, I ran into an English guy at the hostel who was thinking about doing a similar trip so we are going to be heading out together, which will definitely increase the safetiness of the excursion. Anyway, I won't have access to email for the next few days, so hopefully you'll see a summary of my bike trip up here in four days or so, until then...
