Whew, I am glad that I got that 'first-entry-in-a-while' done, now I feel like I can get back to just writing quick little updates, without feeling too back logged.

Anyway I (thankfully) finally left Hanoi and headed West to Laos (that's either pronounced "L-aow' or 'L-aows', I keep hearing it both ways, I'll let you know when I figure it out), and the trip took a long time to say the least. I got on the bus around 7 pm Tuesday (even though they told me to be there at 5:30), and didn't arrive in Vientiane until 5 pm last night. We pretty much drove straight through with a two hour stop at the Vietnam/Laos border. This border was by far the most disorganized I've seen so far, there were maybe a hundred people who needed to get through (only five foreigners, none of whom were native english speakers (besides myself, obviously;)), and there wasn't a line in sight, pretty much just a big free for all, anyway after that we drove another eleven hours to Vientiane, which is the Country's capitol. It isn't a very big city, it reminds me a lot more of Concord New Hampshire than Washington DC.

Anyway, the Buddhist New Year starts either today or tomorrow, and is supposed to be a pretty big party/festival. Another Laotian city (Luang Prabang) is supposed to be the best place to experience it so the plan is to take another over night bus there tonight (which unfortunately is on the 'locals bus' which means I will be packed in like a sardine between a crying little kid and a woman with a box full of chirping chicks on her lap). So needless to say, it should be interesting. I am probably going to just wander around the city today, and try and get a sense of the place...

Oh yeah, I am really getting pretty immune to long bus rides, before I left a four hour bus ride to NYC was a huge hassle, now I don't even think twice about a 16 hour bus ride. Hopefully that means my nice little 17 hour flight home won't be as miserable:)

I found this link today about a guy who is attempting to walk around the world on foot, apparently he is having some problems in Russia right now And on a similar note I found another website a while back about a very overweight man who is walking across the United States called Don't worry I'm not getting any ideas here, I'll stick to busses;)
