I think some of the Thais are secretly trying to kill me. I know it sounds kinda crazy but I think I fell in to one of their traps this morning. To avoid getting my shoes wet (due to the high tide) I was forced to cut through the woods a little bit and behind some guest houses, and in doing so had to walk over a bamboo mat that was placed on the ground. Well it turns out the bamboo mat was missing something very important, namely earth underneath it. I ended up falling six feet down into a foot of standing water, and having something like a 4 by 4 crack me on the back of my head. Don't worry I'm all right though, despite having to walk around in some wet shoes. What kind of liquid was in the hole? You might ask, I don't know but my shoes don't smell like shit and that my main concern. Anyway it can get pretty dangerous here, but the thais we'll have to keep trying if they want to take me out. Although if i had been cutting behind some guest houses in the dark after a few drinks, that hole just might have done the trick;)

On to some random thoughts and ovservations...

Thailand is often called "the land of smiles" but so far I really haven't found the Thai people to be overly friendly, I am not complaining I guess I just had a different expectation. Although I wouldn't be surprised if that had more to due with the fact that up until now I have spent a lot of time in areas that have a lot of tourists who aren't exactly always polite and respectful to Thai customs. I bet if I were more of the beaten track, I would find the Thai people to be more friendly. For instance when I spent some time with Adul, he was more than hospitable to me.

There really aren't many Americans on Koh Phangan. There are thousands of young people here, but I really haven't run into or heard too many Americans. ANd peopl seem to actually find it interesting when I tell tell them that I am American. This is the polar opposite of what I found when I was in Europe, there were a lot of Americans there, and I almost felt like people were less interested in talking to me when I told them where I was from. I also haven't seen much of an anti-american sentiment here, where as in Europe it seemed like no one liked us, or our government anyway.

The Nationality that is the most dominant here is Israeli's. I guess after there mandatory military enrollment they often take some time off to travel, and the Isreli dollar (sheckel?) isn't as strong as the Euro or Dollar so they tend to gravitate to relatively inexpensive areas such as Thailand. After that there seems to be a lot of Scandinavians and Europeans.

I don't find the Thai women overly attractive. A lot of guys I've talked to think that Thai women are the most attractive that you can find. I guess I think they are a little too small, and that Ilike women that are more curvy. Is this blog-appropriate? Probably not, but hey, I have to keep it interesting. And if you are a Thai woman don't be offended, there are plenty of guys out there whoi think that you are phenomenal looking.

My bungalow is right off of the main beach (up a little hill), "awesome" you might think, and location-wise, yah it is great, but every night there are huge parties on the beach, where they don't stop pumping the Techno music until like 7 or 8 in the morning, no joke. Well I went to bed at 9 last night and had to sleep with ear plugs all night, which is pretty damn uncomforable, especially if you don't want to sleep with your head facing directly up or in the pillow.

Every floor in every building here is immaculate. I guess this comes from the fact that Thai's used to eat w/their plates on the floor, so the floor literally had to be clean enough "to eat off of."

Not getting a root canal before I left was definitley the way to go, I got a fluoride put in and have been brushing my teeth with sensodyne, and eveything seems A-OK.

I haven't gotten the "Big D" yet, which surprises me. Although, as I am writing that I am feeling a little rumble-rumble down there, better knock on wood and go find a john, haha.

ALright thats all I got for now, remember to post messages so that I know who is reading this, and so that I don't feel like I am just writing to my Mom and Mel...
