Daniel here:

Well just a short entry for Colombo because it is only a stop-over. The flight from Amman was OK but neither of us really slept, mostly because of the time difference.  Arriving at Colombo airport was funny because of all the duty free shopping.  Instead of just the usual items being available such as perfume and cigarettes, there were also full on whitegoods retailers as well.  They sold everything from vacuums and toasters to TVs, washing machines and clothes dryers.  I didn't think anyone would be buying that kind of thing but even at four in the morning it was ridiculous how many people where walking around with their suitcases as well as huge fridges on their trolleys!

We stayed at a hotel near the airport and it was still mostly dark on the way there so we didn’t see much.  My plan was to go and see the city of Colombo later that day but the lack of sleep kept me in the hotel plus I didn’t really feel like dealing with crowds which are everywhere here.  It seems no matter what time of day there are people around, all with no idea of personal space and all willing to push past you to get to what they want.  Some of those bent over old ladies in Sari’s would do well on a rugby team with their amazing pushing power!

We checked out this morning and drove to the airport.  Along the way amongst the crazy traffic we noticed that a large truck in front of us had a huge elephant in the back!  Don’t know where it was going but the elephant looked happy enough.  Airport was a bit unordered with more pushing but finally got through immigration where it is quiet.  It seems that for every 50 people at the airport only 1 is actually going anywhere.

Anyway time to board now.  Can’t wait to arrive in the Maldives.

Certain things are quite cheap in Sri Lanka. Most electronic goods, books and clothes cost a fraction of the price in the U.K.

I even got a hair transplant which cost me $1.50 a graft for FUE ( compared with over $10 back home. The results are fantastic. Im thinking of going back to look for more bargains.

I would like to make some clearances about that Funny purchasing in Colombo airport. all of them are not travelers who is coming to visit the country but all SriLankans working overseas Specially in Gulf Countries after ending work contracts when coming back to the Mother Land they are Granted 1000 USD Free Duty Allowance by the Government for earning foreign revenue for the country. Government Duty for Electronic Items are mostly 75 to 100% This is why every Morning you anyone can see fridges are going on Trolleys.
