Hope everyone hasn't given up on the blog but not much to report again.
Our last few days in London went quite quickly. We visited the National Gallery a few times for the free tours they offer. There was a great selection of paintings including alter pieces from Florence (painted in 13th century) right up until Van Gough and Monet. We also saw Rembrandt, Cezanne, Kobke, Titian and lots of other artists I should know. The tours went for an hour and focused on 5-6 paintings and were so much better than just wandering around the gallery with no idea like I normally would. The gallery itself is right on Trafalgar square which we wandered around for a few photos. We also visited Big Ben and the rest of Westminster. Ly and I had seen these places before but it was still good to go back and refresh the memory
We had a few good meals as well. We ate in a few old English style pubs but not the normal pub fare. We ate quite good Thai at a pub in Notting Hill and tasty but expensive modern cuisine in Guy Ritchie’s pub (The Punchbowl) in Mayfair. All washed down with some bitter and flat English beer.
We ducked in to Harrods department store for a look around as it had been a while since we had both been there and it was on the way back to the hotel. I know it is stating the obvious but damn that place is expensive. I thought I would be impressed by the food hall but both of us agreed that the food halls in Tokyo are much better. Because we were there near closing time there were items in the food court at half price so we grabbed a few things for dinner and some very tasty fudge for dessert.
That was pretty much it for London. Although we missed out on Dubrovnik at least we got to see more of London and catch up on our jet lag sleep even if it was in typically English weather.
Thanks for the comments and emails so far guys, great to hear from you all.
Next stop, Russia!
