Howdy folks,

Steffie and I had a voucher to have dinner at the Fernsehturm in Mannheim, so we eventually got around to making a booking and we went on Tuesday to dine out. We jumped on the tram to Mannheim, which dropped us right out the front at the popular boathouse and we walked across the road and down to the underground entrance.

The tower itself is a revolving restaurant, transmission tower and observation lookout built 40 years ago and commanding a good view over the plains that surround it. It is definitely a part of the Mannheim skyline. With the sun hanging low over the west and the restaurant rotating every hour, we were assured of some good views.

Mannheim is a sprawling industrial city at the confluence of the Neckar River into the Rhine River and home to a large harbour including BASF. It also is big enough to have a regional airport, soccer stadium, ice hockey arena and of course a brewery! We opted to go for the 3 course dinner, which gave us plenty of time to watch the world pass slowly by. Not a bad life really!

The weather has been good this week and I have been back on the bike riding to Heidelberg every day. I had my first week of block week, which means that I have just been learning about the hotel industry. It is interesting and boring at times because it has to do with a lot of statistics and of course plenty of new words. Who travels from where, to go where, with what, for how long and why! At least I know the difference between a 3 star and a 5 star hotel now!
