Day Two in Germany for Simon started with a big continental breakfast with fresh bread which I've come to enjoy. We had to look after the kids in the morning because the grandparents were away at a doctor’s appointment, so we had fun playing and watching TV. Leonie was talking quite a bit which Simon didn’t understand a word of, but they still got on quite well. I even had a go changing a nappy and putting Aeneas to bed which was not bad on my part! Simon got the chance to relax after rushing to get everything ready and especially after such a long flight he was happy to have a lazy morning.
After they came back, it was time to jump on the bikes and ride into Heidelberg to take a look around. Simon borrowed Winfried’s bike and we cycled along the Neckar River through Wieblingen to Bismarkplatz. Simon bought himself a memory card and then it was time to head for the hills. First we climbed up the Philosophenweg where we had good views over the Altstadt and up to the Schloss. Then we hiked through the Odenwald up to the Thingstätte which was nice and green. After checking out the monastery ruins at the top of the Heiligenberg, it was time to head back down to the bikes.
We had to get home for dinner, so we rode back along the Neckar where we all ate a nice meal of schnitzel, spätzle and jägersoße. After dinner it was time to take the party up onto the terrace where we had a few drinks and looked up at the nice full moon.
