Happy Father's Day! At least in Germany the Hallmark Holiday lands in May instead of September in Australia. The good thing about having the day off is that I can go for a walk through the forest near Edingen called the Dossenwald. It is more like a nature reserve as there are a number of different marked trails in a rough figure 8 configuration bordered by the railway line to the north, the autobahn to the west and Schwetzingen to the south.
It is hard to find areas in Germany which aren't developed as farmland or towns. Unlike Australia, you can't drive for 100kms without seeing anything and while they might not have big mountains around here, they certainly have forests. We have the Schwarzwald and the Odenwald which are the bigger ones, but there are other tracts of land still undeveloped where people can go for a ride or a walk. The Dossenwald is the closest one to Edingen.
The weather is in the low twenties, but today was pretty humid and overcast. That has been making it nice to ride to work through the fields this week and seeing the fields of canola and self-pick flowerbeds. I first came to the Dossenwald just after I arrived in Germany and it was nice to see all the greenery returning. We decided to go for a walk in the lower loop and passed woods, meadows and the occasional autobahn. But it was still nice to get some fresh air. Things aren't alway perfect...
