After buying a christmas tree with Winfried on Sunday, we had to wait until Wednesday to put it up in the dining room. Meanwhile, Steffie had her Christmas Work Party on Tuesday so I went with her mother to the SAP Arena in Mannheim to watch the Mannheim Adler against Augsburg Panther. I haven't been to the hockey in over a month so it was good to go and check it out. The game was a little bit frustrating because the away team scored a minute before the end of the first period and the second period was filled with seemingly baseless penalties. Having said that, we were able to equalise and went on to win in the third period 3-2. It wasn't a pretty win, but a win nonetheless that was only soured by the fact that my 3rd beer was given to me with half foam.
Steffie and I went around to Marcus and Yvonne's house on Wednesday and gave them their gifts before coming back for spaghetti bolognese
On Thursday, we had Semmelknödel which are bread, cheese and bacon dumplings which are boiled and served with a creamy mushroom sauce. It was absolutely fantastic and tasted really good. Afterwards we went to visit Kim and Mona and I was driving on the Autobahn albeit at 100km per hour. I really don't understand it, but the Germans don't like having street lights so its strange driving along a dark, rainy highway with only your headlights. We were glad to make it back home!
Today was the last day of German school so we had a bit of a party and I introduced everyone to the subtle flavour of Vegemite. There was some sort of incident on the Strassenbahn because there were cops and an ambulance outside. At the end of the class we had a go at singing German Christmas Carols. It was a strange feeling because I'm not enrolling in the next class and most of the other people are. But for me I need to focus on getting a job and if I have the possibility, I can study later. I still have plenty of material to go through, but I will miss socialising with all the Auslanders!
So it still isn't cold here, we had 5 degrees today and all the snow melted so I don't think that I will have a white Christmas. Happy End of the World Day!
