With winter fast approaching and the days getting cooler and shorter, I've been trying to make the most of my afternoons in Heidelberg by playing frisbee with the guys or going for a walk. On Sunday it was warm enough to play football with shorts and a shirt, but only because we were running around! Most days this week have been under 10 degrees and some of the mornings are really foggy. I guess the river and open fields have something to do with that.
I still am keen to play the tourist even though I'm only travelling 10kms to Heidelberg every day. So I thought about taking a few photos of things which aren't exactly typical in Australia or North America, but seem commonplace here. A few examples are the tram station being on the edge of a farming field, seeing about a million bicycles locked up around the Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof and the very long river boats that cruise up and down the Neckar
I definitely haven't been starving here in Germany. Breakfast or Frühstück is usually a sit down event with a table full of Kaffee, Saft, frisches Brot with Wurst, Käse or Tomaten und Gurken. That is good because I don't eat lunch until I get home at 2pm or halb 3. For Abendessen, it is typical to sit down for a proper meal with a glass of Bier or Wein, followed by a few more if your in the mood. Needless to say I've put on the weight that I lost from the roadtrip stresses! It has been good to get into a regular workout schedule again as well. It is a bit hard doing sit ups in a tent!
I made some Anzac Biscuits this week and my first homemade pizza base which turned out ok, but we didn't bake it long enough so it was a bit soft. My German course finishes next week and my new one starts directly so there will be no rest for the wicked! I'm looking forward to hitting the Christmas Markets tomorrow and playing some billiards afterwards!
