Howdy folks,

Steffie and I would to thank all of the people that have made our 2012 Summer Roadtrip such a success story. As a token of our thanks, we would like to make a special mention to some of the people who have been part of our trip this year.

Banff. Hiroyuki, Haruka, Adam, Dave and Neil had breakfast with us and gave us a really nice sending off.

Edmonton. Daryl, Charlotte and Bailey became our first hosts and welcomed us into the family. We had a great time meeting the neighbours, canoeing and playing Catan.

Jasper. We met Julien who got on for the ride from Edmonton and hung around to go on some hikes and the tramway before hitchhiking down to Banff.

Kamloops. We first picked up Joe who flew in from the UK to check out BC. It was a bit frustrating for him because of car troubles, border crossings and inclement weather, but we departed on good terms.

Kelowna. Met Jack and Dave for the first time since Banff and went to play minigolf. We spent a week catching up with them in Vancouver and camping on Vancouver Island before saying goodbye again. Had a surprise visit from Christian who was en route back to Banff with his parents.

Seattle. Zemeer, John and adorable Quill showed us how to have a good time and we felt right at home. Would have loved to stay longer with them…

Sioux Falls. Travis was short on time, but invited us to stay in his apartment anyway. A kind act that won't be forgotten.

Madison. Amir hosted us for 2 nights and took us to a birthday party bar where every day is a birthday.

Milwaukee. Thomas came along to the state fair for a day of beer, rides and cream puffs. The sunset from his apartment was pretty cool.

Chicago. Charlie and Isabel hosted us after I met them hiking in Banff the previous summer. It was great to spend time in their nice home and see the sights.

Detroit. Stefanie aka Paula flew in from Germany to spend 5 weeks with us. Things didn’t always go smoothly, but we survived and had some memorable experiences. Thankfully she made it to New York to see the Statue of Liberty.

Fredericton. Mitch hosted us for a night, took us out to meet his Army buddies and talked about bomb disposal and getting frozen fingers.

Lunenberg. Adam flew home for a week and we caught up with him for 2 nights. We camped in his parent’s backyard and heard all about his glory days growing up.

Washington DC. Cousin Joel let us stay at his place and we caught up for the first time in a decade. We met his wonderful family and had a great there. It was fantastic to get to know them and their 2 kids Finn and True.

Fort Lauderdale. Cousin Matt let us use his house as a base for 2 weeks while we went off exploring the Keys and Miami. We met his wife Kai and daughter Kailee and felt right at home. I felt like even though Matt and I were previously worlds apart, that we had a few things in common after all. It will be hard to say goodbye.

It just goes to show you that people can make all the difference. After a while you can get bored seeing the same old things, but you will always remember the kind acts that people do for you. Thank you so much once again and I hope that one day we can return the favour.
