I can't say that the last 2 days have been the most interesting, but they have been important in wrapping things up here. Our last few days of life in North America are drawing to a close and as we woke up yesterday morning, things felt different than before. After checking out of our hotel in South Beach, we took a short walk up Ocean Drive past a few more art deco buildings to the Lincoln Street Mall. We got on a bus at noon and travelled back to Fort Lauderdale. 2 buses and nearly 4 hours later, we finally arrived. We were planning to make dinner for the family to say thanks for letting us stay here, but we ended up going out to dinner instead.
First Matt and I took Kailee and her cousin to the park where there was a big birthday party going on complete with bouncy castle
Steffie and I had a somewhat restless night with a bit on our minds as we went to bed and had a late start. Steffie packed her bags and we had a bite to eat for lunch after she got herself sorted. Around 12:30pm, Matt dropped us both at the train station with all of her belongings and we caught the Tri-Rail into Miami International Airport. It took about an hour on the train and an additional 30 minutes just to check in her bags, so it was a good thing we left super early. Once the bags we gone, we had some time to sit down and talk before I had to catch the bus back to the train station.
It is a bit of a strange feeling to say goodbye to somebody you have spent every waking moment with for the last 4 months and the heavy rain at the airport certainly added to the depressing mood. At least I took comfort in the fact that it was only for a few days before I fly over to join her there and a new era in my life starts in a foreign country. I'm not sure what my plans are for the final 4 days here, but I don't think I will be do much adventuring; probably more preparation than anything else.
The times they are a changing!
