Howdy folks,

Yesterday I got off work at 7am and went home and got changed to go on a free FAM tour. That basically means that one of the local tourism companies offers free trips for hotel staff to go on certain tours and recommend them to their guests. I don't get many guests asking for trips at 3am in the morning, but I'll go on the trip anyway! So Dave and I got on the Discover Banff bus at 8:15am  We travelled out to Exshaw which is just past Canmore and Lac des Arcs. The weather was pretty warm yesterday as it got up to 5 degrees!

After a short walk down a service road past the magnesium processing factory, we approached the canyon entrance. Our ice treads dug in as we stepped onto the frozen river and walked inside. It didn't really feel any different than walking down the street except you could say *Hey I'm walking on a frozen river!* Certainly walking down the street without ice treads can be more slippery! We didn't go too far before we came across some 1000 year old paintings on the wall and some ice climbers takling a frozen waterfall without too much difficulty. We stopped for hot chocolate and a maple cream biccy before turning back,

On the way back I got dropped off at Canmore and had a look at the Canadian Tire which is like a Mitre 10 or Bunnings. I picked up a cheap torch and binoculars. I was getting tired because I hadn't slept yet so I didn't hang around and walked out to the outskirts to hitch a ride. After about 15 minutes I got a lift with an old guy and his dog in a righthand drive Mitsubishi van. It was like being back in Australia except for driving on the wrong side! He dropped me off at the Mount Norquay road and I walked back into Banff.

Because of the warm weather, the 1cm of snow that fell at 3am had already melted and I could even start to see the grass in the backyard! However, up at Sunshine they had 15cm of snow so I think I will be going snowboarding tomorrow!
