Now that the Christmas Craziness has died down, it is possible to stop and consider what just happened! On Christmas Eve, I woke up at 3pm and started preparing the roast pork and vegetables for the Weihnachtsabendessen at Cougar Street. Dave made the mash potato and gravy and we walked over with Neil at 7pm to join the festivities. It was a bit chaotic in the tiny kitchen as there were too many cooks, but somehow there was some method to the madness. I had a few pre-dinner German beers and our first course was Japanese sushi thanks to the two Japanese girls Sayuri and Miwako. All together we had 13 people from 8 different countries: Australia, Germany, Japan, Canada, Ireland, England, Czech Republic and Switzerland.
Then came the main course which was pretty filling
We decided to make a Secret Santa because otherwise noone would get a gift on Christmas so everyone brought a gift to the value of $10. It was pretty hilarious because the gifts ranged from Ikea candles to plastic snow sleds and cheap board games. It worked out great and everyone had a laugh about what they received. Dave and I had to go to work so we bid farewell to everyone at 10pm and went in for what turned out to be a quiet enough shift.
I woke up at 3pm on Christmas Day and looked out the window to see snowflakes falling from the sky; my first White Christmas! I was pretty lucky that it snowed on the actual day because we haven't had much snow lately. I went around to Cougar Street to help Steffie prepare a vegetable soup. Leo and Susanna came around and we caught a taxi to Adam's house. Kylie was just finishing off the roast turkey and after an hour of playing Xbox and checkers, we were ready to eat. Again there was plenty of food on the table, but my favourite was the cold ham slices which brought back memories of Christmas in Australia. For dessert, Leo and Susanna made boiled apples stuffed with nuts which tasted pretty good
In the morning, I got picked up by Steffie and Christian and we went down to Calgary for the Boxing Day sales. We went to Deerfoot Meadows where we previously went to Ikea and had a look at Sportchek and Atmosphere which are two sports and outdoor stores. I managed to pick up a hoodie for half price and Christian bought a new snowboard, boots and bindings as well as some other electronics from Best Buys. It was a little chaotic as there were cars and people everywhere and I was pretty tired because I hadn't slept. Finally we left at 2pm and I slept in the car for an hour on the way back to Banff.
Merry Christmas all!
