On Sunday I was in a good mood because I received a call saying that I had gotten the job at the Banff Voyager Inn as a Night Auditor so I was glad that I had found work so soon. I caught the bus into town and had a coffee before heading out to the Gondola. It wasn't cheap at $30, but it hoisted me up to one of the highest points in the Bow Valley in around 10 minutes whereas hiking to the top takes 2.5 hours. The surrounding views were just breathtaking and the short hike out to the Cosmic Ray Station proved that it was still winter on the mountain tops. The observation deck said that Canberra was 13,312kms away so I knew I wasn't in Australia anymore! After having poutine for lunch, I headed back down the mountain and over to the Upper Hot Springs which were a toasty 39 degrees in the Canadian sunshine. It was sublime to bathe with a mountain view and so relaxing.

On Monday I went into sign the employment paperwork and had the afternoon free to pick up a police check. I met a girl called Megan from Cairns in the hostel kitchen and we decided to go for a hike out to the Toe Track which was past the Hoodoos. Once we were an hour into the hike, the path disappeared and we were hiking on ice and snow for most of trip. It was quite serene to be in nature yet so close to the city and we kept seeing what I thought were Cougar tracks in the snow. The hike was good and soon we circled back to the hostel. I had a few beers in the hostel bar and played a bit of pool to stay up late.

On Tuesday I had a pretty relaxing day because I needed to start work that evening. I went in at 11pm and met Adam the other night auditor, but by 3am I was tired and my brain overloaded so I walked back up to the hostel to get some sleep. I only had a few hours and packed my bags so I could move into the staff accommodation which was a 5 minute walk down the road from the hostel. After settling in, I went to have a look through downtown and have a checkup with the chiro. Wednesday night I lasted the whole night at the Voyager which is definitely an interesting change from working in a law firm because there isn't much going on at night time.

After clocking off at 7am, I went home for a few hours sleep and had a chat to my new housemate Neil from London. We are living in the basement of the staff accommodation and there are others living upstairs. I decided to go and have a look at the Banff Centre where the arts and recreation facilities are located and at the start of the Tunnel Mountain trail. The last time I climbed Tunnel Mountain it was slippery ice all the way up, but a week later the only snow was left on the summit. I decided to have dinner at Bruno's Bar which was tributed to a local mountain climber.

I'm hoping that I can get a decent day's sleep today because I am actually in one of the hotel rooms while they are cleaning the carpets!

Yum... Now I feel like poutine! I recommend hiking around lake Louise up to that tea house on the hill - watch out for scone-stealing chipmunks though!
