Howdy folks,

Well with my last 3 days in Los Angeles I decided to stay put at the same hostel because it seemed to be somewhat central to the sights that I wanted to go and see.

On Saturday I decided to go to the Getty Centre which involved jumping on the bus system for the first time. Luckily the hostel I'm staying at gave me a map with a list of attractions and which buses to catch to go to them which was really good in navagating the maze of routes. I caught a bus west down Sunset Boulevard and ended up at UCLA before catching another bus up to the entrance. The Getty Centre is free to go to and when you arrive you have to catch an electric driverless tram to the top of the hill where it is located. The place itself is quite big with numerous buildings of paintings, photographs and artifacts along with the magnificent gardens which occupy the south and western sides. After negotiating a few of the exhibits and getting a brain overload I relaxed in the gardens before catching the bus home. Unfortunately my camera died halfway through so I didn't take many photos.

On Sunday I caught a bus east down Hollywood Boulevard to the entrance of Griffith Park where they have pony rides and minature train rides for kids. I was supposed to catch another bus to the park information centre, but I couldn't be bothered waiting so I started hiking up the first trail I came up to. After reasurringly meeting people along the way, I continued up until there was a panoramic view of the entire surroundings. I spotted the Griffith Observatory to the West so headed towards that via one of the many unmaked trails. The Observatory was also free to enter so I had a look around the building which included many exhibits on optics, galaxies, the solar system and astronomy in general. It also had a good view of the Hollywood sign, but the city was masked by the gloomy smog. The trail down was much easier and soon I was back on Hollywood Boulevard. I decided to also go to the Hollywood Museum which had a few exhibits on old movie stars which wasn't really that interesting.

Today I was trying to decide between going to Long Beach to see the Queen Mary in dry dock or to Santa Monica to see the pier, so I decided to go to the closest one which was Santa Monica. It did involve 2 buses to get there, but it was good once I got there because it was a nice day and it was very relaxing. I took a walk up and down the 3rd Street Promenade before heading out onto the Santa Monica Pier and having a look at the many shops and people who occupied them. There was a snake handler who handed out this python for photos as well as a man with about 4 parrots/macaws on his bicycle. I decided to go for a bike ride along the coast down to Venice Beach which was nice and there were lots of people and stalls along the way seling 'mediclnal' dope which apparently is quite legal. On the way back to the hostel on the bus I passed the Red Carpet Premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theatre of pAUL, but it was too early for anyone to be there.

Alas I didn't see a TV show taping (but I would have had to waste a whole day) or visit a baseball game (season hasn't started yet), but I have managed to see quite a bit!
