Long train ride to Bergen, but we enjoyed 'comfort class' with endless cups of tea and coffee.  Dan was envious of all of the other people around us with laptops, as we couldn't open our new purchase until we left Norway.

The train car classification system was pretty good.  There was economy, which was fairly comfortable seating and fairly spacious.  Next up is family.  We didn't see that area, but I can imagine it's a vicious hell filled with screaming children sucking the soul right out of their parents nostrils.  There is also an animals allowed class for those people travelling with pets.  Similar to family class, only slightly hairyer and dogs sit when you tell them to.  Then there is comfort class, which is only slightly roomier than economy but has leather seats and fold down tray tables and endless cups of tea and coffee.  Due to economy being full, we had to take 'comfort class' and we never looked back Bright Buildings in Bergen

However... one family seemed to feel that they, and their small screaming baby, were exempt from travelling in family class.  Nay, they sat across from us, inflicting their ill tempered offspring, and her increasingly shrill cries, on the rest of the train car.  Her father said she was 'teething' in that not quite apologetic way, as if that made it better, more acceptable even.

I think they begain to catch on that the general morale of the car was declining as everyone else in the car was glaring balefully in their offsprings wailing direction.  The dad decided to excuse himself and carried the wee bundle of joy into a different, less occupied, sitting area.
More tea!  Train trip got a lot better.  The scenery... breathtaking.

As we slowly ascended into the mountains, the mirror still lakes and rolling green hills with forest and quaint wooden cabins, to snow covered mountain peaks and alpine lakes with rustic ski cottages.  Then we headed back down the mountains and arrived in the city of Bergen by the mid afternoon.

We found our way to our hostel and checked in.  It was a bus ride away from the city (about an hours walk uphill) and dropped our bags before walking back into town for some touring.

Bergen was beautiful - more stuff on Bergen to follow.

Children
Norwegians in general have a greater toleration for children, than perhaps other countries. Children are in general welcome in most establishments ( nightclubs being an exception ) in Norway. That goes even if it's first class or a posh restaurant etc. Does'nt matter if the child has a bad day and cries :-)
