Almost not getting to Venice

We arrived at the train station expecting to pay for our reservation on the spot, as we had previously, but all trains to Venice were booked out. Until tomorrow night! Instead we went on the train to Innsbruck (which the Venice train passes through), for some reason we didn't need a reservation for that, but it meant we had to sit in the dining room with crap chairs for several hours. In the end we paid on board to go all the way to Venice, exploiting a loophole in the train system. The trip took almost 7 hours and was extremely boring as we couldn't sleep on such uncomfortable chairs - we played coin games and card games, incl. a few group games of solitaire which I didn't think was possible.

Getting lost in Venice

Venice has an odd way of numbering houses - instead of using street names, our address was #2967 in our district. We struggled to find this number, even though we found different streets ending with 2950 and 3000. By the time we found our place, we couldn't get in, and the nearby kebab shop guy told us to cross the road and get the key from another hotel! But when we reached that hotel, the guy said he had no idea what we're talking about. Eventually we got the key, and the room was horrible. So horrible that when I first sat on the bed, it collapsed! The others were cracking up, until Tow tried lying in his at night and his collapsed too.

We had great pizza for dinner at a restaurant that had about 60 pizzas available, but the nightlife in Venice is terrible. There's 1 nightclub in the whole city (not like I'd go anyway), and the bars in our area were practically empty. It's probably a beautiful city during the day, making me think that for couples who have things to do at night other than drink, Venice is heaven ... but for three single guys, Venice looks like hell.
