We needed to do a visa run, and we hadn't been to Malaysia yet. So we found relatively cheap flights, took a week off from work, and headed out. The KL airport is probably the nicest airport I've ever been to. It won worldwide awards several years in a row, which I was quite impressed with, mostly because I had no idea such awards existed. I'm not sure what the criteria are for Best Airport in the World, but I'm guessing a Sbarro's is a must, and the Cheers retaurant/bar doesn't hurt either. Add free computers with internet access and you have yourself a champion. Unfortunately the airport is a bit far from the city and the cab was about $25. Our taxi to the Bangkok airport was $7.
Our cab driver was cool and talkative and at least made a cursory effort to mask his scent. Our hotel was on a busy market street so we had to hike it several blocks because no traffic was allowed through. We arrived to an unimpressive room and a desk clerk who found my request for a working toilet and bloodless sheets obnoxiously demanding. We stayed one night and found a very cool hotel not far away where we spent the remainder of our trip.
