It's actually Fernando Ivan, but then you'll read it I-ven, and it should be ee-von, which makes me happy because that's how his mom says it and because it sounds like a girl's name.
I've known Fernie since we were 10. We haven't been friend's that entire time because I pushed him down at Roller King in 6th grade, which put some strain on our relationship. In relatiation, he told everyone I liked Tiffany Hamilton, which was true, but still scarred me deeply. But somehow we recovered. He visited me in Mexico a few years ago while he was making his way back from Costa Rica. We've been on several Spring Break trips around the world (none of them to Fire Island if that's what you're thinking). So it was not unexpected, but still very cool, that he came to visit us in Thailand.
He had a few friends meet him over here during his 3-week trip, so they took trips around the country, and we just hung out in Bangkok. He had enough time that we didn't have to go non-stop while we was here. We just hung out, showed him around, and he got to see what life is like in Bangkok. It makes for a nice juxtaposition with the rest of Thailand.
We had a great time. We reverted back to college days by drinking like fish one night, but then played Scrabble like old men a few times. And in case anyone is curious, I'm the greatest Scrabble player of all time.
