We took a tourist bus to Trat, then a quick ferry to Koh Mak. Our hotel had someone pick us up, and a few minutes later we were in a bungalow 15 feet from the ocean. Our room was really nice, had hot water and AC, a sweet hammock, and two chairs that lined us up perfectly for sunset. The entire front of the bungalow was glass and I'd open the blinds at sunrise and stare out into the sea from our bed. It was amazing. It was worth $50.
And the island was great. There were only a handful of hotels on our beach, and the entire island probably only had 15 or 20 places that I saw, most of them very small. Huge stretches of beach were lined with nothing but cocunut trees. It's the anti-Samui. And we had great food at reasonable prices right next to our hotel. The restaurant was quaint and set in a garden, and the seafood was unbelievable.
So we spent a week just lounging on the beach. We took a tour of some surrounding islands one day and did some snorkeling. Mostly, we walked on the beach and read and held hands and made out. Life is good. And I love hammocks. I really do. When I was in Belize in college, I decided I wanted to live in a hammock forever. It still sounds like a pretty good idea.
