Our first Christmas in Thailand was in the north, in Chiang Rai.  It was cold.  We were out in the sticks.  It wasn't overly festive, but it was pleasant and we had stockings that Miguel and Christina had given us before we left.  Well, this year, it definitely wasn't going to be cold, but it actually felt much more like Christmas.  Bangkok is very international, so the city was full of Christmas decorations and music for several weeks prior to the 25th.  We put up our Christmas tree around Thanksgiving, because that's when we traditionally did it when I was a kid.  Lindsey decided she wanted to make snowflakes out of computer paper like we did in elementary school.  Except that then it was just called copy paper.  I'm so old.

So our apartment was festive and we had lots of Christmas music playing.  Then on Christmas morning we turned the AC down so we could at least feel a bit of a chill Christmas Cards

.  We normally keep our thermostat on 28 (82 F), so turning it down to 26 (79 F), wasn't exactly frigid by American standards.  My mom and my brother Derek like to keep their houses in the 60s, so you have to regularly microwave your underwear and put your face near the toaster just to stay alive.

We had several Christmas cards to add to the holiday cheer.  Miguel's wife Christina is a craft guru and so her card was the centerpiece of our collection.  And my mom sent little Snoopy Christmas ornaments that we arranged like a nativity scene, so the total effect was quite impressie.  I'll post photos and maybe a video or two.

Lindsey's dad sent us a christmas package with t-shirt sheets that have changed our lives.  Thais don't care about thread count for some reason, so their sheets are like sleeping on that butcher paper they use in doctor's offices.  My mom sent a Christmas package with lots of cool stuff too.  So we didn't go without this Christmas.  And we managed to get several days off to hang out and enjoy the holidays.

Also, check out Lindsey's handmade Thai jewelry.  Buddha pendants and all sorts of cool stuff.
