The train does go all the way back to Bangkok, but it's painfully slow.  Plus, on this particular line they have "tourist prices," which means we paid 6 times what locals pay for the ticket to Kanchanaburi.  So it was cheaper, faster, and more comfortable to take a bus the rest of the way to Bangkok.  AC feels good.
