We took a less than impressive 5-hour bus ride on a dirt road from Siem Reap to the Thai border. Our bus broke down and I got to point at things that looked broken, which was the entire engine. Our driver kicked things, spit on parts, and cursed just enough to get our dusty heap moving again.
At Poipet we crossed back into Thailand after 5 months away and felt like we were suddenly back in the First World. Paved streets, AC, 7-Elevens. We took a beautiful and smooth 4 hour mini-van ride back to Bangkok. We checked into a gorgeous hotel room with a soft mattress, a top sheet, cold AC, TV, and a Western Breakfast buffet. We were living it up to celebrate the fact that my big brother would arrive in two days. We're mildly close and I was pretty excited to see him.
