Long Bien Bridge
Entry 68 of 175 | show all | print this entry |
|
There is a bridge east of the market called the Long Bien. It is a railway bridge with small roads on each side for foot and motorbike traffic. It spans the Red River and was of great strategic importance during the Vietnam War, providing a communication link to China. The structure was repeatedly bombed by Americans and then hastily repaired by the Vietnamese. The irregularity of the supporting beams is visible when crossing the bridge. The path provides an impressive view of the city lining the river and the Chuong Duong Bridge to the south.
