Christmas was obviously very different than previous years.  I've only been out of the country once during the holidays, and that was in England where they too celebrate the festivities.  So that was odd because I was away from my family, but it still felt like Christmas; it was cold, there were trees everywhere, lots of lights, general merriment.  But here it's easy to forget that Dec. 25 is approaching.  But my parents gave us a little cash before we left so we could buy Christmas presents, and Miguel and Christina gave us stockings as going away presents.  So we had the basic ingredients for the holidays.  The night market in Chiang Mai was very useful because we stumbled across DVD stands that sold region free movies for $2.50 each.  We were even able to buy movies that were still in theaters - it was a Christmas Miracle!!

So we spent most of our money on 20 DVDs or so 01 View from the House
01 View from the House
.  2 seasons of Simpsons, some Sex & the City for Linds, Superman, the Breakup, Stranger than Fiction, Deja Vu.  We were happy.  We have more down time in the evenings than we had anticipated.  We don't drink or go out and you can only read so much, so the DVDs were quite welcome.  And we can't rent movies here because they're region 3 and won't work on the laptop.
We also bought a couple of guide books that we wouldn't have wanted to spend our own money on.  We needed more info on Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia - our next three destinations respectively.

Christmas dinner was curry and noodles and a dozen Oreos.  It was fantastic.  We even got to unwrap a couple of presents because a little market in the village sold wrapped presents.  What was in them we had no idea, but they were $.50 and it's fun to tear open Christmas paper.  Good times for all.

Then it was another freezing night before heading back to the city.
