We've spent the last few days in Xalapa (pronounced with the J sound, like Jalapeno). It's a cool town in Vera Cruz, but since it's in the mountains the weather is amazing. Much cooler and drier than the rest of the state.
My tour of Mexico is coming to a close. Money, of course, has disappeared throughout the summer. But thanks to some lovely people like Mando, Eddie, Derek and my mother who loves me despite my unwillingness to "do something" with my life, I've had some cash to throw around. I've stayed in some pretty nice hotels, eaten well, and done things I would have otherwise been unable to do. Good people.
Today we went to a small town called Xico (J sound again, or a hard H for the English speakers). We visited some amazing falls and had a nice trek through some pseudo jungle. I did see a beetle that was the size of my foot. Actually it was half a foot, but that's still a giant beetle. I also saw a number of butterflies, which my mother would have loved. Or maybe they're just really pretty moths. I don't know these sort of things. But they were still cool.
Tomorrow it's off to Catemaco and some nearby beaches. I need a little color before I go home.
