From France, we took a train to Italy. I remember that it was the overnight train of death. We paid for couchettes, which was extravagant for us. We usually just slept in regular seats because couchettes cost 18 Euro each. But we needed a good night's sleep for a big day in Rome. We didn't get it. The train maintained a speed somewhere between dangerous and ludicrous. Like in Spaceballs you ask? Yes, like that. And the train shook like we were re-entering the earth's atmosphere encased in a paper airplane. I was pretty sure we were no longer on tracks and the train was just hurdling down a rocky slope into the Mediterranean. We somehow survived and rolled into Rome the next morning.

Italy was probably what everyone was most excited about. It's a country we have all studied extensively in school, or should have at least. It's the cradle of Western civilization, art, and religion. It's also the home of pizza and gelato. The pizza is nice, but I still prefer Papa John's. But gelato is the nectar of the gods, and there aren't a lot of crime's I wouldn't commit in order to get a hold of some Straciatella.
