Arriving in Thailand after three months of travelling in India and Nepal was fantastic. For those who have never been to Bangkok, it is a hugely busy and polluted place but the bright lights and frenetic atmosphere make it very exciting. It provided an opportunity for shopping and even some pampering at the hairdresser.

We booked ourselves into the Atlanta Hotel

where David had stayed before on one of his previous trips to South East Asia. It's a budget hotel but prides itself on it's facilities, including a swimming pool, and no-nonsense approach to sex tourists of which there are many in Bangkok, particularly in the Sukhumvit Road area near where we were staying. It's quite a sight to see all these overweight, balding, middle aged/elderly men parading around like love sick school boys holding hands with pretty, young Thai girls. It's almost funny until you take in the amount of girls who line the streets and bars at all times of the day and then you realise just what an industry it is. Sadly this is only the tip of the iceberg but at least most of the girls we saw did not appear to be under age.

David and I had both been to Bangkok before so we can say with a clear conscience that we did absolutely no sight-seeing but lots of shopping, lounging around by the pool and sampling the fantastic Thai cuisine available on every street corner.
