Although we were obviously already having withdrawal symptoms from not saying at a Motel 6 hotel, I must admit that it was nice to have a "Do Not Disturb" sign to hang on the door. This allowed us to have an outrageously late lie-in, but I think that we deserved it after weeks of early starts.
Once again we thought that the phonebook had come up trumps when it came to finding an internet cafe, but yet again our hopes were crushed when we found out from the new owners of the place where the internet cafe used to be, that it had gone out of business recently. It's a bit late in the trip to learn this lesson now, but in future we should definitely ring these places to make sure they still exist.
Still fortunately the new owners must have been seen the look of desperation in my eyes and probably didn't want to see a grown man sobbing on their carpet, so they were able to give me directions to a "small" internet cafe just up the road. Unfortunately it was me that was in their store listening to the directions, which meant there were two serious drawbacks a) I have a memory like a sieve and b) I don't tend to hear about 50% of what is said to me in the first place. I blame too many years of having my music turned up to 11 when listening to it for the latter. I ran back to the car to make sure I could recite what I'd remembered of the directions to Lynne, so we stood a fighting chance of getting to our destination.
We did indeed find what had been described as a small internet cafe, but in reality it was an absolutely huge place and absolutely stuffed full of terminals for the weary traveller to use. Trying not to sit too near any Americans playing noisy shoot 'em ups on the LAN, I selected two prime location machines, only to find that they were right in front of one of those dance in time to the music arcade machines. We didn't realise our folly until music came blaring out, followed by frenzied stomping of the variety normally reserved for when a spider runs out in front of me. Sadly the people using the machine were annoyingly good, so they were on in for twenty minutes at a time before needing more money.
Still despite distractions, we were able to upload the rest of the photos that we've taken to date and count our blessings that Lynne was entrusted with taking most of them, because they looked really great. It makes a big difference to see them on a bigger screen and although we've already gone over the 500 photos taken, that wasn't as many as I thought we'd have taken by this point in the trip.
Today we booked the trip that we're going to be doing in Fiji, which is basically an island hop that takes us around five islands, with a couple of nights on each as well as two nights on ship that cruises around the islands too. The photographs their website shows of each island are absolutely stunning, real Robinson Crusoe stuff and people sipping milk straight out of coconuts. I can't wait to get to Fiji now.
