The day before we had managed to finally locate an internet cafe that was still in business, so we thought we spend some time updating our journals today after checking out. However at $8 per hour, we decided that financially this wasn't a very wise option, so we only paid for the one hour and uploaded the photos that we'd taken since the Grand Canyon. We're paranoid that our camera is going to get stolen and we'll lose the memory card that has all the photos we've taken so far on it.

We managed to locate a hotel that was reasonably close to Yosemite without meaning that we either couldn't afford to eat or that we'd have to spend the night sleeping in the car. Merced is about one hour North of Fresno and throughout the whole journey we were passing mile after mile of almond trees, that thanks to the unseasonably warm weather were already in blossom. Although the early blooming meant that all the growers were now panicing that the overnight frosts that were promised for the next few days might wipe out about a quarter of their crop.

Merced is a much smaller town than the last few that we've stayed at and although we didn't venture far beyond the hotel today, it looks a pleasant enough town. This time we're staying at almost the cheapest hotel of the trip, an unpromisingly titled hotel chain called "Vagabond Inn". However it actually looks like one of the nicest hotels that we've stayed at on this trip so far. There were fewer drunken lorry drivers wandering around the car park, also it had a Dennys and McDonalds right next door to it. So we'll be in fast food heaven for the next couple of days.

We might need to drown our sorrows in calories, as the weather in the Yosemite area doesn't look too promising, with further snow being promised for the higher ground.
