July 25, Saturday

Our first stop is just down the road at Rottingen. It is a very small walled town with picturesque buildings in the town centre.  One of the older citizens has made 25 sun dial clocks, all different, and placed them around town.  Wow, this is great a walking tour of the town, and something to look for other than a church.  We didn't find all of them, but were impressed with the ones we did find.  On our walk we seen the remaining fortress towers, the cemetery and tried a cinnamon roll, not too bad.

Creglingen is another small town.  We walk around, up the hills looking for the church with a special alter in it.  The church is closed and there is a sign saying the alter is somewhere else.  We have a look at the stream, buildings and then leave.

Rothenburg is a beautiful town.  When we arrived here we knew something was going on by all the cars in the parking lot.  The city’s old fortress wall is still in tact and has several towers where you enter through the gate.  It is huge.  We explore the wall, several gates, and a couple of old churches.

When we began walking into the old park of the city Len says listen, we could hear a band playing.  Today is their 5k Fun Run and we arrive just in time to see them begin.  We listen to the band, then continue our walk around the town.  It has an incredible old town centre with lots of beautiful buildings, homes and shops.  We try their schnayball (snowball), it looks much better than it tasted.  The carved alter by sculpture Tilman Riemenschneider we looked for in Creglingen is here in the local church.

There will be a beer tent here tonight, but the camp ground is way down the hill.  We spoke with a police officer and he thought we could make it back up walking.

We find the campground and set up for diner.  We just started eating and it began to rain, there we are sitting under the tarp.  We then set the tarp up on the mini and of course it stopped raining for the evening.  It is getting down to 8 or 9 at night.  I sure hope it warms up soon as we are heading for the Bavarian Alps, then Austria.
