We enjoy the time in the tent with being able to cook and have the refrigerator. So this morning it is bacon and eggs for breakfast and toast.
It is still cool and rains off and on. We decide to take a ride to Carcassonne about 2 hours from here to see a castle. The ride is along highway at first and then back roads where there are grape vines all over. I keep talking about those grape vine, but we haven't stopped for a picture. Actually along this road there is no where to stop for a picture.
The GPS works great and we are soon at the castle. It is huge, and was completely restored in 1853. It has big high walls, turrets in the corners and along each wall. Slits in the wall for guns and cannons to fire out of. It had a moat and another wall which the current city is behind, then there is the castle inside the city
We went into the Basilica of St. Nazaire and St. Celse, with its beautiful stained glass windows, vaulted ceilings and long history.
After walking through the church we went through the little town which is mostly tourists shops. We bought 3 cookies, not anything to write home about and paid over $5 for them. We were disappointed.
Outside the fortress walls was a beautiful 2 story carousel. They were painting and varnishing the floor getting it ready for the busy summer season. We had never seen a carousel with 2 floors to it. The sun shone and it was warm while we were here. When we got back to the sea side it was cloudy again and cool. It had rained at the campsite.
In the evening we go to the bar to find out what the entertainment will be, it is a rugby game on the TV.
