They greeted us with two white silk scarves. I finally got one. We are shown to a new mini van and away we go on our one and half hour ride into Lhasa. The new road made for the torch run was nice, we went through a 3km tunnel where all only have their parking lights on - no headlights!

We pass small villages with large fields inbetween. The growing season is over and we see some plowing their fields with yaks. We make a stop to see a natural Budah that is carved or miraculously appeared on this mountain side in the 7th century. There are a lot of prayer flags, scarves, and butter lamps lit.

Lhasa is quite larger and more modern than we thought, but a lot of changes have taken place since the late 90's. It is much cleaner than Kathmandu and the cars and vans all seem to be newer. The sidewalks are very wide and it looks quite modern.

Our hotel is quite good, beds harder than the floor, clean and a modern bathroom.

We are left by our driver and guide until tomorrow. We go out for a walk and explore the streets on our own, looking in shops and alley ways. We watch people buying french fries, from street vendors, they look good and we are hungry, a lady gave us a sample and they were good, a bit spicy, but we decided to get some without the spice on them. They were sooooo good!

We walked on and found the street markets that lead up to Basrkhor Bazar. There is everything for sale. Len gets a new hat and we continue walking and end up in the pedistrian square where the Jokhang Temple is. We watch the Tibbetians praying and go down to lie flat face down hands stretched out.

We head back to the hotel and have dinner and an early to bed as it has been a long day.
