So iŽm going to try to make two quick entries to keep the map in around. Spent last night in the hostel I spoke of. pretty nice, met yet another abnoxious american kid from the bay area, who i committed to going to dinner with before realizing what a douche he was. however, salta on a tuesday is not so hopping so we caught some tango at a restaurant and then went back to the hostel b/c we both had to get up early. However, met up with some brits playing a drinking game, then some girl who lives on Valencia/ 19th in my neighborhood in SF so got to chatting and drinking and didnt get to be until almost 3. Had a 7am p/u so slept hard for 3.5 hours, but since i had the room to myslef i was able to sprawl and wory about locking everything. Of course at 7, breakfast is not served yet, and (of course) the kid wouldnŽt give me change for the coffee machine ("there is no change in Argentina") so I was quite grumpy when i set off on my 550km tour of the surrounding mtns.
The convenience store we stopped in didnt have coffee but they didnt offer me a big bag of cocoa leaves (bolivian gum as my driver called it). This tour came with an english speaking guide but since it was me and three nurses form Rosaria Argentina, the conversation flipped back and forth. Thankfully she passed around mate about an hour in so that got my fix. We later stopped at a few towns along the way for shopping, snacks and lunch. although IŽve come to expect this sort of thing on "tours" this actually felt fairly authentic; there really is pratically nothing out there so you have to stop somewhere and the food/beves were not terribly overpriced and quite good.
The scenary was amazing but IŽll let the picures speak for themselves.
