We found the Cordoba mini-bus terminal without too much trouble and bought a ticket to Alta Gracia (5.90 peso, USD1.60). The bus ride is only about 50 mins, so it wasn't too bad. We'd asked the driver to let us know when to get off to go to Che Guevara's childhood home, and soon found ourselves outside the home/museum.
A scuplture of a young Che sat on the porch. Inside we were given english guide books to read as we wandered through the museum. The information, photographs and memorabilia were very interesting and it was well worth 5 peso (USD1.5) entrance fee
There was an information service set on the lawn who were very helpful in providing a map of Alta Gracia and pointing out the bus stops and centre of town. We wandered back towards the centre, past a small lake and the clock tower.
We eventually stopped for lunch at Southpoint (or Southport), on Av. Sarmiento. I had planned on having a steak as soon as I got to Argentina and the one I ate for lunch did not disappoint. It was very tender and came wrapped in bacon and served with delicious vegetables and mashed potatoes. It wasn't cheap (36 peso, USD10), but it was nice to have a decent meal, considering that I was having left over pizza for dinner.
We headed towards the bus terminal after lunch and found a nice avenue that wound alongside a stream. There were many people swimming in the stream and having barbeques along its tree-lined banks. Thee stream didn't look particularly clean, but in the heat of the day it was tempting.
We soon found the bus terminal and a bus back to Cordoba and got icecreams as we waited for the bus to leave. Argentina seems to have the same problem as most South American nations in relation to small change - there just isn't enough. Consequently I paid 3 instead of 2.50 for my icecream.
I dozed all the way past the maize fields to Cordoba and we got a taxi back from the bus terminal to the hostel. We'd caught a bus instead of a mini-bus back, so the bus stopped much further away from our hostel.
