Now that we had made the detour inland, this meant we could spend some time at Lake Tahoe, not far from Yosemite, before heading back to the coast. Most widely known back in blighty for it's ski resorts during the winter months, Lake Tahoe is equally renowned by the locals for it's deep blue waters and white sandy beaches during the summer. This is the second deepest lake in America at 1645ft deep which prevents it from ever freezing, and the water is so clear you can see the bottom of the lake up to 70ft deep in some places. Once again we were blessed with good weather and we spent a couple of days at the lake enjoying the beach, sinking some cold beers, and playing silly on a tandem. We thought we'd liven up the bike rides a bit and hired a 2 seater for a change, which was super fun once we'd got our balance going up hill! There are bike trails that run along the edge of the lake to different picturesque bays and sandy beaches, framed by snow-capped mountains in the background. Good times!
