After a few cold nights in the car, we blew the budget (again) and booked into a B and B in the Wicker Park area of Chicago. Once again the room we landed was beyond our expectations, including an open fire place, a bed big enough to sleep 10 people, and a marble en suite bathroom! Yes! Even though any room with 4 walls and big enough to stand up in would admittedly seem like the ritz, this really was a nice place and we couldn't believe our luck. Torn once more between wanting to spend every second enjoying the luxury, but having a new city to explore on our doorstep, we popped out for dinner and a glass of wine and began plans for a day of pounding the pavements tomorrow.

Chicago's public transport includes the 'El' or elevated train, and we used this to get around the city for the day and to try and save our feet a little. We visited the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Cloud Gate or 'the bean' as it's known, which is a wicked sculpture made of stainless steel in Millennium Park that gives a distorted reflection of the city, and also really enjoyed the Crown Fountain; a pair of 50ft glass towers that face each other over a black granite pool. The glass towers project the faces of local people, and every 10 minutes or so they spout water from the mouths of the people being projected!

It's amazing how quickly a day goes just wandering in a city. We walked down the Navy Pier which is half a mile long, and finished off the day with an infamous Chicago 'deep dish' pizza pie that was ridiculously huge! Before we headed off the next morning we caught the train back downtown and walked around the Contemporary Art Museum which was well worth the visit and meant we got to see Chicago in the sunshine before we left. Could easily have stayed in Chicago for much longer, it's such an interesting and exciting city to be in.
