Where I stayed
Our first adventure was taking a water taxi to our BnB that is situated directly overlooking the grand canal, how cool is that! (Its worth mentioning that our room has a sweet Canopy bed), living the dream right here! The ride along the canal was really pretty, lined with houses, churches and restaurants. The sound of boats and the water splashing up against the side of them...this is definitely our kind of city.
Went out for dinner to a place not too far from where we are staying. Met a nice American couple who along with us had a great time being laughed at and taking the mickey out of by the waiter. Was a fun evening, drinking wine, eating great food and having a good laugh
Navigating your way around here is like working through a labyrinth city. You think you are walking in the right direction until you come to a dead end and only a canal in front of you. The thought of getting lost in these narrow alleyways and climbing over small bridges is kind of exciting!
Our gondola ride was AMAZING! Its quite an experience getting into the elegantly decorated little boats and having your personal gondolier escort you through the heart of the city. You feel like royalty for a short time, its so cool. Was definitely the best way to see Venice, it was peaceful and lovely in the sun. We took an hour ride through the small and large canals, got to see where the famous Casanova grew up and managed to get some great photos too.
San Marco square is Venice's main square, which houses St Marks Basilica, clock tower, campanile of St Marks church and of course meets the gorgeous grand canal. We took a stroll through here on our way to board the Venice water bus service, going on pretty much all routes we could and saw a lot of Venice. We took a ride out to Murano island, a part of Venice that is well known for its glass goods
Our time in Venice was suppose to stop here, but we love it so much we decided to book another night. Have to say that this is high on my list of gorgeous places, right up there with Prague!
Our last day we took another trip, except this time we went a little bit further to an island called Burano where the whole island has bright colour houses. If you look down the canal of one of the small streets , you get a beautiful reflection of the colourful houses lining it, its really stunning. We had lots of fun here with the camera, such a neat place to visit.
